We are proud to announce that as of September 2017 filter paper coffee pods by Minuto Caffè are E.S.E. compliant, and therefore guaranteed to work well in all coffee machines bearing the E.S.E. mark.
We recommend using E.S.E. pod products in machines with a brewing unit suitable for paper pods, or machines with a paper pod adapter inserted in the filter holder. The pods are designed for fit all espresso machines that use the E.S.E. (Easy Serving Espresso) system, which guarantees the machine and pod are fully compatible, to ensure every cup of espresso is perfect.

Standard E.S.E. compliance is not the first award received by Minuto Caffè for its paper pods. In fact, Minuto Caffè Espresso Love 100% Arabica blend won the gold medal in its category at the 2014 International Coffee Tasting event. Therefore, Minuto Caffè pods are a good and guaranteed choice: long live Minuto Caffè E.S.E. pods!
The filter paper pod, probably the first version of single-serve coffee, originated from a corporate patent. Rights to its collective mark were then granted to the Consortium for the Development and Protection of the Standard E.S.E. (Easy Serving Espresso), specifically established in 1998 to define said standard and therefore establish standard reference parameters that would enable coffee roasting companies and espresso machine manufacturers to ensure optimal extraction results. To this day, the “E.S.E. pod” standard stands out and substantially differs from all other single serving standards due to its being an open standard, meaning it is available to all coffee producers or coffee machine manufacturers who wish to use it.
* the pod is composed of coffee that has been roasted, ground, pre-portioned, tamped, and sealed within two circles of food-grade filter paper. The portion of ground coffee must weigh at least 6.5 grams. The pod nominal dimensions must conform with the following measurements and their respective tolerances: nominal diameter of 43.5 mm with tolerance of -0/+1.0 mm; nominal height 9.6 mm with tolerance of -0.5/+1.0 mm (per the Technical Specifications, Attachment 1, of the Consortium E.S.E. Statute)
Obviously, only companies associated with the Consortium E.S.E. are authorized to market pods bearing the “E.S.E.” mark, as opposed to labeling them as “E.S.E. compatible”, a seemingly subtle but extremely important difference. In fact, only E.S.E. pods ensure that consumers can actually make perfectly brewed expresso with their own E.S.E. coffee machine because the Consortium has an independent certification body periodically inspect the product at the associated manufacturers plants, while “compatible pods” are only guaranteed to work well by their manufacturer.
